The NFL has been very strict in regulating its gambling policies in recent days. Back in March 2022, NFL suspended the former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley for the entire 2022 season. Recently, the league suspended two Indianapolis Colts players for violating the rules. Amidst this situation, the New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones has shared a controversial take on the league’s gambling policy.
“I understand rules are rules,” Jones tweeted on his profile on Thursday. “But I can risk my life so that my team wins but I can’t risk $1,000 on my team winning?”
The Patriots CB Jonathan Jones‘ controversial take comes a day after the Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers got hit with an indefinite suspension for placing hundreds of bets on the NFL games including on his own team. Rodgers was released by the Colts shortly after the league suspended him.
Furthermore, Jones also shared a suggestion that the NFL “could limit bets to be only for your team’s benefits” when a Twitter user told him that players betting on the NFL could ruin the integrity of the sport.
Despite many people’s disagreement with his stance on the issue, Jones stood firm on his take and said that he was “only arguing logic”. He also claimed that he doesn’t bet on any sports but himself since it isn’t a great investment. The 7-year NFL veteran went on to downplay the idea that players would be affected by their own bets.
“If you don’t give maximum effort you lose your job more than any bet,” he wrote. “This isn’t boxing. You can’t get 92 players on a Sunday to not show maximum effort.”

The 29-year-old cornerback Jonathan Jones’ controversial take on NFL gambling policy has created some buzz. Jones implied that the players should be allowed to bet on the games if they are risking their lives so that their team could win every game. Fans mocked Jones’ opinion and explained that it is similar to insider trading but the Patriots CB Jones stood firm on his take. Check out some of the reactions below.
The talented cornerback Jones was signed by the Patriots back in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. He has enjoyed a successful career so far with the Pats as he has registered 11 interceptions and 330 total tackles in his 7-year-long career so far.
Furthermore, he has helped Tom Brady and the Patriots to win two Super Bowl rings. He will be entering the 8th year in the league in the upcoming season and looks to be a major asset for them in the secondary unit.
