The Green Bay Packers made a shocking move by drafting the Iowa Hawkeyes defensive end Lukas Van Ness with their 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Many Packers fans were bewildered by the team’s decision to draft a defensive end when the Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon-Smith Njigba was still on the board, but some fans were focused on the Van Ness’ inner circle.
The Iowa product Lukas Van Ness was watching the draft from his home with his family, friends, and his girlfriend Frankie Kmet. When his name was called, Van Ness was surrounded by his two sisters and his girlfriend, which led to some unnecessary confusion among the fans on social media. “Packers draft pick Lukas Van Ness is already dating three girlfriends like a savvy NFL veteran,” wrote one Twitter user.
Furthermore, Van Ness’ dad also became the focus of NFL Twitter after he appeared to get playful with Kmet while celebrating the moment when the camera flashed back to the family. On top of all, a guy (likely Van Ness’ brother) had to be dragged away from Ness after he kept hugging him. The Van Ness family has certainly shown their support in full swing to the Packers’ first-round draft pick.

NFL fans on social media hilariously roasted Lukas Van Ness over his viral draft moment. Additionally, the fans were also pissed off at the Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst for not selecting the highly touted wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The Packers moved up two spots in the 2023 NFL Draft as part of their Aaron Rodgers trade to the New York Jets. Besides, the Packers could also end up getting the Jets’ 2024 first-round draft pick if Rodgers played a minimum of 65% of the total snaps for the Jets. Earlier, Lukas Van Ness’ dad was also seen having an inappropriate moment on TV.
Nevertheless, Luka Van Ness is a terrific pick for the Packers defensive front. The 6’5″ 264-pound defensive lineman played collegiate ball for the Iowa Hawkeyes. During his successful 3-year stint with the Hawkeyes, Van Ness registered 13 sacks and 70 total tackles.
If the Packers can utilize Van Ness in the right way, he’ll surely become one of the top edge-rushers in the league soon.
