Kyler Murray came highly touted as the best quarterback in the draft. This made the Arizona Cardinals choose him first overall in the 2019 NFL draft. However, Murray hasn’t been able to establish himself as one of the best in the league.

Murray won the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year award for his performance under the center in Arizona. However, despite being in the league for four years now, the 5’10” signal caller only has one winning season to his name.

Back in the 2021 season, Murray showed signs of greatness as he led the Cardinals to an undefeated 7-0 record, and many thought the league would witness another undefeated season similar to that of the 2007 New England Patriots. However, he wasn’t able to get the Cards all the way over and ended the campaign with a 9-5 record.

Last year was truly a disaster for him and Arizona. Murray started in 11 games and went 3-8. He suffered an ACL injury in week 14 that effectively ended his season. The Cards finished 4-13 and fired Kliff Kingsbury from the head coach position.

Kyler Murray played college football at Texas A&M before transferring to Oklahoma in his second year. He did not play in the 2016 season due to NCAA transfer rules. However, in the next two seasons, Murray completely went off.
In 2018, the star quarterback threw for 4361 yards, completing 69 percent of his passes for 42 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Additionally, he also rushed for 1001 yards and 12 touchdowns. His exceptional performance saw him win the 2018 Heisman Trophy and be the best quarterback in the draft.

Recently Murray’s alma mater, the University of Oklahoma, unveiled a state of the quarterback ahead of their annual spring game. The statue shows the former Sooner’s quarterback without a helmet, in throwing motion along with his famous headband. Kyler Murray’s statue is built in the Heisman Park in Norman alongside six other Heisman winners of the University that include Baker Mayfield, Sam Bradford, Jason White, Billy Sims, Steve Owens, and Billy Vessels.

While this was a sizeable achievement for Kyler Murray, fans didn’t see it that way. They questioned what actual difference the 25-year-old has made to have a statue made.

Kyler Murray signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension with the Cardinals, with $160 million guaranteed. With Jonathan Gannon as the new head coach and Monti Ossenfort taking over as the general manager, the Cardinals are looking to redefine themselves in 2023 and Murray has to step up and be the leader and face of the franchise.
