It has finally happened! After months and months of drama, the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson have agreed on a long-term deal that will Jackson in Baltimore for the next 5 years while also making him the highest-paid NFL player ever.
After more than 2 years of contracts, Lamar Jackson was able to get what he wanted with the Ravens. Jackson signed a 5-year extension on Thursday worth up to $260 million including $180 million in guarantees. The agreement also came just hours ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft and that will give some breathing space for the Ravens, who now can concentrate on their other needs.
The Philadelphia Eagles recently made their franchise QB Jalen Hurts the highest-paid NFL player in history with a 5-year extension and now just a few weeks later, the Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has dethroned Hurts as the highest-paid NFL player in regards to annual average salary and Jackson doesn’t even have to pay for an agent.
After playing the 2022 season with the Ravens under the 5th-year option, the 2-time Pro Bowl QB was placed under the non-exclusive franchise tag after Jackson asked for a trade away from Baltimore in Early march.
But it seems like the Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta has made Lamar Jackson happy with the signing of the premium wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency on a one-year deal.
Social media reacts to Lamar Jackson contract extension
NFL fans on social media have mixed reactions to the Baltimore Ravens giving their franchise QB, Lamar Jackson, the biggest contract in NFL history after 27 months of contract negotiations.
Lamar Jackson, who would’ve made $32.4 million in 2022 if he played under the non-exclusive franchise tag is now set to make more than $50 million per year under his new historic contract.
Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that the Ravens are also looking to trade for the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins at the behest of the former league MVP QB. If the Ravens can get Hopkins it will be a huge off-season for them.
Nevertheless, Lamar Jackson is now in the perfect position to full fill his Draft Day promise of bringing a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore. If the Ravens can ace this 2023 Draft, they could build a strong roster that could compete for a championship in the near future.
