The Washington Commanders have been under a lot of fire and a lot of controversies in the past. From receiving backlash for its former name to the hostile workplace environment, the franchise has seen it all in its recent history.

Most of the fans blame owner Dan Snyder for everything bad that has happened with the team. Back in 2011, Snyder filed a defamation lawsuit against the Washington City Paper for an article that detailed all of his controversies. Then in 2021, Dan Snyder was found guilty of driving up the ticket prices of FedEx Field by selling the tickets cheaply to a third-party vendor.

However, the most controversial thing that happened under Dan Snyder’s ownership of the Commanders was the hostile work environment that shook the entire league. In July 2020, the Washington Post released articles detailing the sexual harassment of female cheerleaders and staff of the organization have been experiencing by Snyder and other top executives.

After the Washington Post published a series of articles detailing the hostile work environment in Washington’s facility, the team was under a lot of pressure from other owners and the league. Hence, Dan Snyder is working on selling the Commanders and bidding has already started for the purchase of the NFL team. Many bids came in to buy the declining franchise but Snyder made a very specific request that he would not accept any bids from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

As reported by The Athletic, Snyder denied Bezos’ request to buy the team because he owns the Washington Post which is responsible for Snyder being forced to sell the team he has owned since 1999. With a plethora of companies and billionaires making their bids, another prominent name has popped up. According to the Washington Post, NBA’s Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta has expressed interest in buying the football team.

Fertitta’s bid came at $5.5 billion which wasn’t anywhere near the top. Ever since Tilman Fertitta took over the control of the Rockets in 2017, the team has had a below-average performance. In the current season, the Rockets are the last team in the Western Conference with a record of 13-47 with a winning percentage of .271 which is the worst in the league.

After the news of Fertitta possibly buying the Commanders, fans were disappointed and said that the already declining Commanders would be even worse under his leadership. Here are a few reactions of fans on Twitter.

Reports suggested that Dan Snyder wanted to sell the D.C. football for $7 billion which later dropped to $6 billion. If the Commanders is sold for $6 billion, it will be the biggest purchase of a sports team. Let’s see who comes in to try and save the Washington Commanders from becoming the worst team in the NFL.
