Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is one of the most talented signal callers in the league. Under his leadership, the Chiefs have won two Super Bowl rings in the last four years and are dominating the other teams in the NFL. Amidst this, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes claims that he is only keeping games close to the end for entertainment purposes.
“I only make good TV,” said Mahomes during the 2023 edition of the charity golf event The Match. “You never see me win a blowout, I just keep it real close to the end.”
Patrick Mahomes, the two-time league MVP, is obviously joking as he has led the Chiefs to many blowout victories against several teams. Mahomes could’ve been just high on adrenaline as he was trash-talking during the entire event. The Chiefs’ dynamic duo of Mahomes and Travis Kelce went against the Golden State Warriors Splash Brothers, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson.
In the charity event that happened a couple of days ago to raise money for the No Kid Hungry charitable organization, Mahomes and Kelce defeated Curry and Thompson in a dominant way. During the game, Mahomes even made a joke about the Warriors blowing a 3-1 lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals. Mahomes made the joke as they led the Splash Brothers 3-1 after four holes.
With this, Mahomes secured his first victory in the annual charity event. In the 2022 edition of The Match, Mahomes, who was paired with Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen, lost to the team of veteran QBs Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Now, Mahomes has a record of 1-1 in the charity event. On the other hand, Stephen Curry remains winless in The Match with a record of 0-2.

Social media reacts to Patrick Mahomes’ statement
NFL fans on social media didn’t like Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ statement about keeping games intentionally closed till the end for entertainment purposes. Some people bashed Mahomes, saying that he only keeps games close since he knows the referees will bail him out in the last minute. Some others said that Mahomes has been favored by the refs just like Tom Brady was favored during his time.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
On the business side of things, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are preparing to defend their championship crown in the upcoming season. They are looking to become the first team since the 2005 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowl rings.
