“F**king mockery!” – NFL Twitter AGGRESSIVELY questions Seahawks’ choice of choosing Devon Witherspoon #5 overall ahead of Jalen Carter

The 2023 NFL draft is underway, and it sure is an exciting one. As expected, the Carolina Panthers selected Alabama QB Bryce Young first overall. Then the Houston Texans, who were expected to pick a defensive player, pulled an upset and selected Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud.
However, the Texans surprised everyone as they had the third overall pick from the Cardinals and drafted Alabama defensive end Will Anderson Jr. Then came in the Colts who picked Florida QB Anthony Richardson fourth overall.
With three quarterbacks off the board in the first four picks, the Seattle Seahawks were next in line and they probably threw the biggest curveball as they selected Illinois CB Devon Witherspoon. This came as a shock since there were two best defensive linemen ahead of Witherspoon, namely tackle Jalen Carter of Georgia and end Tyree Wilson of Texas Tech.

The Seahawks picking Devon Witherspoon goes against what they were in desperate need of – a defensive front. However, they have one more pick in the top 20 and there’s a good chance they use that to draft a defensive lineman. “I was confident I was going to go pretty high,” Witherspoon said of the Seahawks picking him fifth overall. “I ain’t know it was going to be Seattle, though. I’m glad that it is.”
Seattle was interested in drafting a great cornerback, and they finally got the opportunity in Devon Witherspoon, who is nothing short of the best. Pro Football Focus said of the young cornerback: “Witherspoon had one of the best seasons we’ve ever graded from a college cornerback. He was targeted 63 times in 2022 and allowed only 22 catches for 206 yards with three picks and 14 pass breakups. That comes out to 3.3 yards per target. He’s one of the feistiest cornerbacks in the class.”
The fans, however, didn’t approve of the Seahawks picking Devon Witherspoon ahead of Jalen Carter and Tyree Wilson. They roasted the franchise for wasting a top-five pick for selecting a subpar player.
Devon Witherspoon has the physical ability and shows quick short bursts that will come in handy while running after a wide receiver. However, he is a bit undersized and will need to come into size before the start of the season. Also, he can get a bit handsy at the top of the route, which might be a red flag. Let’s see how this surprise pick of the Seahawks performs in the 2023 season.
