The Baltimore Ravens and their quarterback, Lamar Jackson, have developed an intriguing relationship over the past few months. The franchise and the player are yet to arrive at a middle ground in regard to the latter’s conquest for a new contract ahead of the 2022/23 NFL season.
The Ravens non-exclusively franchise tagged Jackson at the start of the 2023 offseason, meaning that the quarterback can hold talks with other franchises and even sign a new contract. However, that hasn’t worked out for the quarterback as of now, with no NFL franchise showing any real interest in offering him a contract.
This can be majorly attributed to the fact that any team making an offer for Jackson would have to give up two of its first-round picks in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft.
Lamar Jackson yet to agree to a new contract with the Baltimore Ravens
The stalemate condition between Jackson and his franchise has continued for these past few months, but now the Ravens have launched a renewed interest in the quarterback, by offering him a new contract. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Ravens offered him a contract that included a whopping $200 million in guaranteed money.
Fans on Twitter jumped on the bandwagon as soon as the news of the Ravens’ contract offer was dropped by Rapoport and tried to decipher why the quarterback hadn’t accepted the deal yet. Check out a few of the best reactions-
The deal would make Jackson one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, but it still might not be enough for Jackson to sign on the offer sheet provided by the Ravens. According to numerous reports, Jackson wants a contract in the mold of controversial Cleveland Browns quarterback, Deshaun Watson‘s $230 million guaranteed contract over 5 years.
The timing of the contract offer simply couldn’t have come at a better time, with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts bagging the biggest deals of modern times. Hurts signed a bumper $255 million contract for 5 years, which includes a guaranteed payment of over $174 million, making him the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history.
