Jalen Hurts‘ time with the Philadelphia Eagles is all set to continue for a very long time after the quarterback signed a record deal with the franchise. The deal worth a whopping $255 million will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history and will keep him at the franchise till 2028.

After a stupendous season last year, in which he led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance, it was an absolute no-brainer for the Eagles to keep the 24-year-old tied down to the franchise for many years to come. The contract extension will see him pocket around $179.304 million in total guarantees, as reported by ESPN’S Adam Schefter.

Hurts took over the starting quarterback role for the Eagles in 2021, replacing Carson Wentz, and had done exceedingly well in earning them a playoff spot that season. His stocks skyrocketed last season courtesy of his individual performances, which put him in the reckoning for an NFL MVP award, one he eventually lost out to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The 2022/23 season saw Hurts rush for 760 yards and 13 scores while throwing for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns to six interceptions. Philadelphia Eagles made the news of his contract extension official with a tweet on their official account. The tweet read, “Keeping the main thing in Philly.\We’ve agreed to terms with Jalen Hurts on a 5-year extension through the 2028 season.”

The news spread like wildfire, with many claiming that the massive contract extension was a well-deserved one for the 24-year-old. The general narrative, however, wasn’t that, with many skeptics arguing that it was too soon for him to get a contract extension that big, especially given the fact that he has only had one good season in the NFL.

From calling him a one-season wonder to pointing out another unresolved contract extension situation involving the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson, social media dissected the move completely. Check out a few fan reactions on Twitter-

The quarterback market in the NFL has seen rapid strides over the past couple of years, and Hurts’ extension is only second in terms of guaranteed pay to Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, who signed a $230 million guaranteed pay contract for 5 years in 2021.
