The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have finally found their replacement for their legendary quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger as they drafted University of Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. The 23-year old will only have a short trip to make to the other side as he gears up to play in the NFL next season.

Kenny Pickett has shown great promise as a quarterback for the University of Pittsburgh college football side, and has earned plenty of plaudits for his performances. However, the rookie quarterback will have to compete with Steelers’ free agent signing, Mitch Trubisky for a spot in the starting lineup.

Pittsburgh Steelers used up their No.20 pick to draft a quarterback and it was the latest that a quarterback has been drafted in the history of the NFL draft. He passed for 4,319 yards and a whopping 42 touchdowns with just seven interceptions in 13 starts in his final season, leading his side to a 11-2 finish.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was very happy with their pick and found it funny that their ideal quarterback came from their home state, despite the franchise doing an extensive search all over the country.

“We circled the globe — or at least the United States — here the last several months, man, just exploring and researching,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “And it’s funny, we ended up with a guy from next door.”

The decision to bring Kenny Pickett into the Steelers drew mixed feelings from the fans as some felt that Malik Willis would have been a better choice for them. However, most of them were happy with Pickett and showed their faith behind him to succeed in the role.
