These days, not a week goes by without speculation surrounding Kyler Murray. On Monday, he finally became eligible to return from the PUP list. For that reason, he missed the first four games of the week. Murray was in rehab after tearing his ACL last season, and there’s still doubt regarding his fitness.
The Arizona Cardinals fell from grace without Murray and finished the season 4-13. In a fit of frenzy and hoping to turn things around in the new season, they made a lot of changes in the coaching department. Head coach Jonathan Gannon came in along with a new general manager, Monti Ossenfort. Now the situation is that they do not have much of an affiliation with Murray. But Gannon has been a vocal supporter of the 26-year-old.
However, it all comes down to his contract. As per ESPN‘s Dan Graziano, “If the Cardinals are thinking about trading Murray, it would make sense to get him on the field at some point. [But] putting him on the field also means risking getting hurt again.”
That’s a fair point considering how much Kyler Murray is earning at Arizona. Last year, he signed a whopping $230 million, 5-year deal. Basically, the Cardinals are on thin ice because if he does end up injuring himself again, then they have a player who won’t be playing and also taking home some serious money.
According to Graziano, “$18 million of Murray’s 2025 compensation is guaranteed against injury. [Also] $22.835 million of his 2026 compensation.”
Social media is pushing for the Arizona Cardinals to part ways with Kyler Murray
At this point, people from the Grand Canyon want a change. The reason behind that is the emergence of several generational quarterback talents in the college football scene. At the forefront is obviously Heisman holder Caleb Williams from USC.

Fans are pleading for this move to happen. So much so that they would not be pissed to see the Cardinals botch the season completely. If Gannon and Co. do manage to repeat last season’s results, then they will receive the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft (which belonged to the Chicago Bears until Thursday).
As the comments mentioned, journeyman quarterback Joshua Dobbs is currently at the helm. The 28-year-old has been decent at times, especially against the Dallas Cowboys. In four games, Dobbs completed 87 of 123 passes for 814 yards and four touchdowns without throwing a single interception. He also rushed for 141 yards and scored a touchdown.
Even though life in 2023 is nowhere near what they had hoped in the offseason, they are surprisingly behind Dobbs. This is concerning for Kyler Murray; if people start to believe in the backup quarterback, then it’s a massive red flag.
