The New York Jets finally reached a middle ground with the Green Bay Packers to acquire the 10-time Pro Bowl, QB Aaron Rodgers. They finally have a quarterback who can lead the young core of the Jets to Super Bowl glory. However, the Jets now have to get a deal done with their star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who is reportedly unhappy with the contract extension talks.
According to multiple reports, the All-Pro defensive lineman Quinnen Williams is seeking a contract worth $25-$30 million per season. That contract will make Williams one of the highest-paid defensive tackles in the league’s history. Amidst the contract negotiations, Williams changed his Twitter bio to “defensive tackle for…..” as a cryptic message.
Furthermore, his most recent tweet was the retweet of DT Dexter Lawrence getting a deal done with the New York Giants worth up to $90 million earlier in April. Williams’ asking contract would surpass Lawrence’s deal. Due to the Jets’ salary cap situation, the Jets are expected to offer Williams a $25 million contract per season.
That contract would make Williams the second highest-paid defensive tackle only behind the Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald, who is getting paid $30 million per year.

Social media reacts to Quinnen Williams seeking huge contract
Fans on social media brutally trolled Quinnen Williams for seeking a contract in the pay grade of LA Rams legend Aaron Donald. Even the Jets fans are ready for their team to let Williams walk in the off-season instead of paying that kind of money.
The Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams was drafted by the NY Jets as the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He had a slow start to his career but exploded in his 4th season.
During the 2022 season, Williams had a breakout year as he registered a career-high 12 sacks and 55 total tackles which led to him receiving his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro nod of his career. Besides, he also finished 7th in the Defensive Player of the Year Award voting.
Williams proved he can play at a high level in the league with a remarkable outing in 2022, but is it worth paying a defensive tackle $30 million a year? Nevertheless, the Jets GM Joe Douglas is working hard to reach a middle ground with his cornerstone defensive player. Meanwhile, Williams will make around $11 million in the 2023 season if he plays with the Jets under the 5th-year option.
