“Completely unacceptable” Two Michigan players brutally assaulted by Michigan state players amidst a scuffle in the post-game tunnel
The Michigan Wolverines faced off against the Michigan State Spartans and things got pretty heated after the game. Michigan State lost the game to the Wolverines, and a scuffle took place in the post-game tunnel where two Wolverines players got brutally assaulted by a plethora of Michigan State players.
Reports suggest that around 10 MSU players surrounded Michigan’s defensive back, Ja’Den McBurrows, beating him up with punches and kicks.
Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh later gave an update on the situation and stated that two Michigan players were assaulted and one player may have a case of a broken nose.
“The Michigan player appeared to be defensive back Ja’Den McBurrows, who was on the ground in the middle of several Michigan State players. When McBurrows got to his feet, Michigan State linebacker Itayvion Brown grabbed him and tossed him through an open doorway at the end of the tunnel.” Detroit News reported on the situation.
The police have started an investigation on the alleged assault committed by the Michigan State players as Michigan’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, also criticized the situation by calling it completely unacceptable.
“What happened after the game was completely unacceptable. I talked to the commissioner. He is looking into it. We have the police also looking into it because they’ve seen the video,” Warde Manuel stated in a press conference.
Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State have always had a feisty rivalry
Things are bound to get ugly when both the Michigan teams meet for an NCAA football game, and this is not the first time a scuffle took place between both teams. Although this can be the most brutal, numerous Michigan State players ganged up on these two Michigan players.
Michigan State HC Mel Tucker denied responsibility when asked about the situation and stated that he was unaware of such a significant incident that took place after the game.
“I know it was a heated game. Things were heated. We’re trying to get our guys in the locker room. We’ll have to figure out what happened,” Mel Tucker said.
Another reason many fights have taken place between both these teams can be that they share the same tunnel to the locker room and post-game frustration plays a big part in these fights and scuffles. Many people have also demanded a change in rules for college football as there have been lots of fights lately.
Currently, the matter is in the hands of the police, who will conduct a thorough investigation and find out the reason behind this incident.
