The New York Jets released their running back Ty Johnson back in April with a non-football injury designation. The 5’10” running back who spent nearly three years in the Big Apple was abruptly let go last month. And now, Johnson has broken his silence and shed some light on why he got cut by the New York-based football team.

The 25-year-old running back Ty Johnson recently shared a video on his Instagram. In the video, Johnson talked about his exit from the Jets while taking an ice bath. Furthermore, Johnson shockingly accused the NY Jets of cutting him immediately after surgery that the organization told him to get.

“I’ve had some dark, dark days, man,” said Johnson, a 25-year-old running back. “Saw the team doctor, he was like, ‘You need to get it fixed,’” Johnson said in the Instagram video, which he called the “ice barrel talk of the day” in the clip. “Flew out the next day. Came back happy that I got it done, even though I didn’t want to get it done. That following Wednesday, you out of there.”

Despite signing a one-year deal in free agency to return to the New York Jets, Johnson was cut by them on April 26. Johnson also claimed that the sudden release caught him off-guard but still knew he’ll be just fine. “And I was like, ‘Damn.’ But at the end of the day, man, I know I’m gonna be alright,” said Johnson in his Instagram video.

Fans on social media were pissed off at the Jets for ‘backstabbing’ the athlete. However, some people thought Ty Johnson had to get surgery for his injury and the Jets helped him to get it free of cost before releasing him. Johnson reportedly suffered a Torn perc injury that will keep him out of action for months.

Ty Johnson was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After almost 2 seasons in Detroit, the explosive running back was traded to the NY Jets by the Lions in 2020.

Johnson spent the next 3 years in New York and registered 1211 scrimmage yards and 7 total touchdowns. Johnson also played 42% of the Jets’ special teams snaps. The talented running back didn’t get much chance in the offensive unit to prove himself.

And now that the Jets have running backs Breece Hall and Michael Carter in their backfield, the New York-based franchise released Johnson in the off-season. Johnson will now look to make a comeback in the league once he recovers from his surgery.
