Tyreek Hill has backed Tua Tagovailoa over Ryan Clark‘s unwarranted comments on the quarterback’s physique. The former football player turned NFL analyst set the internet on fire with his wild take.
“Let me tell you what he wasn’t doing: He wasn’t in the gym,” Clark claimed on Monday’s segment of NFL Live. “He might spend a lot of time in the tattoo parlor. He is thick. Not something an athlete would lie down and take lightly.
When Tagovailoa was asked what he thought about Ryan Clark’s assessment of him, he said, “I come from a Samoan family where respect is everything,” the 25-year-old said this after the Miami Dolphins practice on Wednesday. “But it does get to a point where—hey, a little easy on that buddy. I’d appreciate if you kept my name out your mouth.”
Meanwhile, wide receiver Tyreek Hill came to the defense of Tagovailoa. He wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Yeah, what he said !!! We got free smoke for you, [Ryan Clark] .” Hill told Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports that Tua is finally showing his true form to the world. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen that side right there. That fires me up. [His] definitely come out of his shell.”
However, Clark later apologized in a recorded message yesterday. “I do my best to be honest when executing my job,” the former Steelers defensive end said. “I fell short on Monday, and for that, I genuinely apologize. It was never my intention to question Tua’s work ethic or commitment to the game.”
Tyreek Hill Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel also sided with Tua Tagovailoa

At the peak of tension between Tagovailoa and Clark, head coach Mike McDaniel showed support for his signal-caller. On Thursday, during a press conference after practice, he claimed Tagovailoa had “taken his nutrition to another level” and “really thought outside the box” in terms of fitness and strength.
The Pro Bowler said on Wednesday that he would prefer to be lighter, but there’s a reason behind his gaining an extra 10 pounds. He reportedly took up Jiu Jitsu so that he could learn how to fall better. Quarterbacks encounter less action during OTAs and training camps, but when the regular season starts, tackles fly left and right.
McDaniel was impressed with Tagovailoa’s commitment. “I couldn’t be happier with the work he’s put in. We are getting the absolute best version of Tua that’s existed.” The Dolphins will play the Los Angeles Chargers on August 27, and Tagovailoa will have several chances to prove his worth to the Miami crowd.
