Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has sustained an unfortunate ankle injury on the Monday Night Football game, against the Tennessee Titans. The 29-year-old was tackled out of bounds when he caught a pass thrown by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, in the first quarter of the game.
As he fell on his left ankle, the wideout was seen writhing in pain while lying on the sidelines. But he still managed to walk across the field to the Dolphins’ sideline. Due to his injury, Hill only played 33 snaps in the week 14 loss. The star wide receiver ran the final 20 yards, as he heard the Dolphin’s crown chant “MVP.“
Due to the grave injury, Hill couldn’t play another snap until the second drive of the Dolphins in the third quarter. When he was sitting on the sidelines filled with pain, he received a text from his wife, writing “You’d better get your a** back in that game, dawg.” And then, he did return after being prepared for the pain, leading to a close 27-28 loss.
Meanwhile, in the absence of Hill, Miami largely struggled as they were outgained by the opponents 403 yards to 366. The team was already without their starting offensive linemen Terron Armstead, Robert Hunt, and Isaiah Wynn.
Center Connor Williams also had to leave the field after sustaining a knee injury in the first quarter. This gave the Titans a good opportunity to pressure quarterback Tagovailoa on 39% of his dropbacks. On being attacked, he completed merely 4 out of his 11 passes for 27 yards, after being sacked five times.
Wideout Hill finished with 61 yards on four catches, despite his returning with his injured ankle.
I just made up my mind that it's going to hurt. It's going to suck. Tonight and tomorrow morning. just went back in the game on my own, without anybody saying, 'Reek, go.' It was like, no, f--- this, I've got to get out there and bring some energy and be that spark.Hill said on his return.
What could losing Tyreek Hill mean for the Miami Dolphins?
In the game against the Titans, wideout Hill logged two receptions for 13 yards. But he can’t be blamed, as he was out for an extended period due to his injury. If Hill went on the injured list, this would mean quite a big loss for the Dolphins, especially at this crucial time in the league.
In NFL history, there hasn’t been a wide receiver to break the 2,000-yard threshold in a single season. But considering the NFL leader in receiving yards records, he logged 1,481 yards in the last 12 games. On average, it’s 123.4 yards per game. Therefore, if the wideout keeps on going with his pace, he sure would establish his name in history for exceeding 2,000 yards in a single season.
However, after his recent injury, Miami’s star WR’s chances seem a little blurred. It would be a huge loss for him, as well as the league, as his name is in the MVP conversation.
If Hill wins, he would become the first wide receiver ever to win this award. Dolphins, who are standing at 9-4, are now preparing to face off against the New York Jets next week. And to claim the victory, the team cannot afford to lose Hill.
