In the past, very few have come close to breaking the 2000 receiving yards barrier in a single season, but to no avail. However, the Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill wants to be the first to achieve that milestone.
The 29-year-old revealed in a recent segment of his podcast, It Needed to Be Said, that “I will break 2,000 yards next year.” He continued, saying, “That [2,000 yards] was on my bucket list” before he retires from playing in the NFL. The dynamic wide receiver wants to add another Super Bowl ring to his collection after his triumph with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.
Currently, the NFL record holder for the most yards covered in a single season is Calvin Johnson Jr. in 2012. The Detroit Lions wide receiver recorded a staggering 1,964 yards in 2012, according to NBC Pro Football Talk. Since then, the record has been safely intact, with few coming close to breaking it.
Hill last season was on course to break it after amazing performances in his first nine games, in which he hit for 1,104 yards. However, injuries to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa limited the output of the seven-time Pro Bowler in the following matches. Despite all of that, Hill recorded his best-ever season with 1,710 yards on 119 receptions.
Hill was in top form last season, even without his quarterback. But this year, if Tua manages to keep himself fit throughout the season, then the Dolphins will be one of the favorites, if not the favorite.
Tyreek Hill wants to replicate his Chiefs success with the Miami Dolphins
Winning the Super Bowl is no mere feat, but winning it twice with different teams is a rare occurrence that only a few manage to achieve. Dolphins Tyreek Hill wants to write his name in that illustrious catalog of players. He wants to replicate the same success that he had with Kansas City Chiefs, to be the same with the Miami franchise.
Hill still follows his former team and what they do week in and week out, despite trading for the Dolphins. He confided in his co-host, Julius Collins, how much respect he has for his former squad.
“When I was with Kansas City, there was never a doubt that we were going to lose a game,” Hill said. Hill revealed the mindset of the coaching staff and the players that dragged them to victory even from a losing position. The Oklahoma State graduate claimed that he is motivated to win. “Those boys (the chiefs) have motivated me to go do something special in Miami.”
The Dolphins are one of the contenders if Joy Taylor is to be believed. If Hill and Jalen Waddle can show their support for Tagovailoa, then the sky is the limit.
