The NFL off-season is getting really interesting. With just days left for the start of the free agency period, teams are looking to address the needs. The Minnesota Vikings are currently looking to re-sign their star quarterback Kirk Cousins. But, if they fail to re-sign him, they are considering adding either Sam Darnold or Zach Wilson to their squad.
According to NFL reporter Darren Wolfson, the Vikings are seriously considering adding Sam Darnold to their roster. The former first-overall pick is on top of the list for the Minnesota-based football team according to Wolfson.
Darnold was drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Many believed Darnold would save the Jets, but things didn’t go according to plan and the Jets had to move on from him. And then, after a failed stint with the Carolina Panthers, Darnold ended up with the San Francisco 49ers as the backup QB.
Darnold did not get a lot of chances to prove himself in San Francisco and remained as the backup QB throughout the season. And now, he might get another shot at becoming a starter in the league if the Vikings fail to extend Kirk Cousins.
As for Zach Wilson, the Vikings have done some homework on the Jets QB, but he is not their priority. If the Minnesota-based football team failed to re-sign Cousins or rope in Darnold, then Wilson might be their third option.
Nonetheless, Cousins has been playing remarkable football with the Vikings for the last few seasons. Even during the 2023 season, Cousins was having a great season before suffering a season-ending injury. So, their first priority would be to re-sign the veteran QB. Only if they fail to do that, they will consider their other options.
Kirk Cousins to Atlanta Falcons rumors gain steam
The Minnesota Vikings are currently hoping to re-sign Kirk Cousins as their signal-caller. However, it seems like Cousins is looking to test the waters in free agency.
According to multiple reports, Cousins is receiving a lot of interest from the Atlanta Falcons, who are currently in the market for a QB. Cousins is also showing interest in joining the Falcons, per reports.
Losing Cousins could be a huge blow for the Vikings and might force them to rebuild. So, they will try their best to extend Cousins and continue their hunt for a Super Bowl trophy.
But, if they fail, they will have no choice but to look at other options. As previously mentioned, their other options might be Wilson and Darnold. The Vikings fans won’t be happy if their team settles for the other options.
