A quarterback is the most important player on the team. He is the most valuable player on the team. And in some cases, he is literally the entire franchise. So a quarterback has to be protected. Last week, during the Los Angeles Chargers-Las Vegas Raiders, the Chargers QB Justin Herbert endured a late hit from Raiders DT Jerry Tillery. The Buffalo Bills’ DE Von Miller praised Herbert’s teammates for defending him and warned anyone who would try to do the same to his QB Josh Allen.

Miller talked about the hit on Herbert on his podcast VonCast. Tillery was ejected from the game following the hit and the Chargers got 15 extra yards to play with. They ended up scoring three plays later and pushed the lead to two possessions. Miller said that if the hit happened on former NFL great Tom Brady, the Raiders DT would have been suspended.

“Justin Herbert was late hit on the sideline and the whole team came to his defense,” Miller said. “If that was Tom Brady, they would have suspended him. To see the whole team come to his defense, that’s what you’re supposed to do.” He further said,“If someone hits Josh Allen like that, I’m getting kicked out of the game. I’m not gonna let none of that fly, man.”

Miller has been nursing an ACL injury for the past 10 months and is expected to make his season debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He joined the Bills at the beginning of last year after winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.

Bills’ assistant coach talks about the benefits of having Von Miller back

The Buffalo Bills have won three out of four games this season. They look like prime contenders to finally win it all this year. QB Josh Allen has been balling to start the season. All this without star LB Von Miller. He is expected to make his return this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after being out for 10 months due to an ACL injury.

Bills’ assistant coach Eric Washington spoke on Monday about Miller and his presence in the team. “We anticipate Von just being an integral factor in terms of our ability to generate pressure with four guys,” Washington said. “Von’s influence and attention that he should garner from the protection concepts should allow other guys to be single.”

Miller was drafted second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. He has been one of the best defensemen of his generation and has won two Super Bowls. He was named the Super Bowl MVP in 2016. The Bills will get a massive boost with the return of Miller as it will strengthen their already vaunted defense.
