The Denver Broncos are doing exceedingly well to make a good enough team for the upcoming gruelling 2022 NFL season. On the ownership front, they are going through a massive change, as the franchise has decided to sell the team to Rob Walton and members of the Walton and Penner families.

According to various sources, the deal is worth a whopping $4.65 billion, which makes it a record price paid for a North American sports franchise in history. If his family’s bid is legally authorised, Walton’s net worth is estimated to be around $70 billion, making him the NFL’s wealthiest owner.

Mellody Hobson, co-CEO of Ariel Investments, chair of the board of Starbucks Corp., and a director at JP Morgan Chase, will join the Walton-Penner group, which will be led by Walmart heir Rob Walton, his daughter Carrie Walton Penner, and her husband Greg Penner.

“Today marks a significant step on the path to an exciting new chapter in Broncos history,” Broncos CEO Joe Ellis said in a statement.

“While this purchase and sale agreement is pending approval from the NFL’s finance committee and league ownership, today marks a significant step on the path to an exciting new chapter in Broncos history.”

The new owner, Rob Walton was extremely pleased to have made the purchase of the franchise and claimed that they have always admired the Broncos. Rob Walton in a statement said, “We are thrilled to be selected to move forward with the purchase of the Denver Broncos!”

“Carrie, Greg and I are inspired by the opportunity to steward this great organization in a vibrant community full of opportunity and passionate fans.
