As Chicago Bears hired Shane Waldron as the new offensive coach, fans have been super excited looking forward to seeing how the former Seattle Seahawks star would change their offensive game. However, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had previously worked with the OC burst their bubble with a shocking reaction.
Last Wednesday, the Seahawks rookie wide receiver and New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave joined CHGO Bears at Super Bowl Radio Row in Vegas. In this appearance, Smith-Nijgba was asked to comment on his thoughts on Waldron landing an OC position with the Bears.

On his subject, the apparent response expected out of the 21-year-old rookie had been appreciating his coaching style or at least wishing him the best for the new endeavor. However, Smith-Nijgba’s peculiar response utterly shocked everyone as it did to the Bears fans.
The Seahawks rookie asked, after a long pause that kind of reflected Smith-Njigba’s emotions towards Waldron:
Um, this is live? Good luck to you all.Jaxon Smith-Njigba said
Although Smith-Njigba tried to mend his words and give them a more positive outlook, there appeared a strange tone in his voice. Smith-Njigba added:
He's a great person, great offensive coordinator. I was very lucky to get to have him my first year. Learned a lot from him.Smith-Njigba added
The Seahawks receiver also turned to conversation towards his former teammate and quarterback at Ohio State, Justin Fields who is now the starting signal-caller at the Bears. He felt Fields and Waldron would have great compatibility once they get more help.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s impressive stats despite Shane Waldron’s lackluster offense
Rookie Smith-Njigba spent just one season under OC Waldron and it ended quite decent for him. He played 17 games this season and logged caught 63 passes for 628 yards along with four touchdowns. However, it was primarily because of Smith-Njigba’s hard work with no major contributions from Waldron.

Under him as the OC, the Seahawks’ offense struggled immensely and finished the season at 17th for points per score and 21st in total yards combined in the season.
As he parted ways from the Seahawks, he is set to start at the Bears next season, who also have the offseason advantage to have the No. 1 pick of the 2024 NFL draft.
