The NFL has provided its fans with a lot of jaw-dropping plays and moments. From the legendary “Beastquake” run by Marshawn Lynch to David Tyree‘s ‘Helmet catch.’ From Aaron Rodgers‘ back-to-back Hail Marys against the Arizona Cardinals to James Harrison‘s Super Bowl record 100-yard pick 6. The league has been filled with some spectacular and iconic moments. One such play took place on this day, 9 years ago, courtesy of Odell Beckham Jr.

The New York Giants were taking on the Dallas Cowboys at the MetLife Stadium in the regular season. It doesn’t get more iconic than that. The Giants came into the game with a record of 3-8 whereas the Cowboys had a record of 8-3. The Giants scored a touchdown in the first quarter and held the Cowboys to only a field goal. The second quarter commenced with the Giants leading 7-3 and that’s when the madness unfolded.

In the early stages of the second period, the Giants had the ball at the Cowboys’ 44-yard line. The Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning and Beckham had already connected for a touchdown in the first quarter. That was a 3-yard pass. However, this time, Manning and the Giants ran an RPO to fool the Cowboys’ defense. On 1st and 10, Manning faked the handoff and threw a deep ball to Beckham. The receiver pulled off an acrobatic one-handed catch for a touchdown. That catch created the legend of Beckham and shot him to popularity instantly as that play broke the internet.

The catch is widely regarded as the greatest catch of all time, such was the difficulty of that grab. Beckham finished that game with 10 receptions for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, the Cowboys won the game 31-28 on a Dez Bryant 13-yard catch from Tony Romo. This game, though, is only remembered for that magical OBJ catch.

Odell Beckham Jr. was reportedly fined close to being fined $11,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct

Odell Beckham Jr. is a player who enjoys himself on the football field. He likes to celebrate his touchdowns. The star receiver, however, was fined for celebrating against the Cleveland Browns in week 10. As he was running into the endzone, Beckham threw up a peace sign and that got him into trouble.

He was reportedly fined $10,927 for his act of celebration. The peace sign wasn’t directed towards any player, but the NFL saw it otherwise. This isn’t Beckham’s first instance of getting fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. He received a $24,309 fine for taunting Minnesota Vikings player Xavier Rhodes in 2016.

The receiver finished the game with that lone reception for 40 yards and a touchdown. Beckham has 251 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 15 receptions over his past four games. In the Ravens’ last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Beckham finished with 116 receiving yards on four receptions.
