A brawl between fans broke out in the stands during Sunday’s Washington Commanders vs. Arizona Cardinals game. The entire altercation was recorded and later shared on social media. In the video, a man wearing a Ray Lewis Ravens jersey got knocked down by another man wearing a Commanders shirt. A few blows to the face, followed by a few inaudible words, left the man with a bloody mouth.

The Ravens fan, later identified as Martino Ancora by Fox 5, stumbled as he tried to get up. Then he was seen arguing with the security personnel, who tried to move him away.

Later that evening, Prince George’s County police arrested Ancora and charged him with trespassing, disorderly conduct, and second-degree assault. However, the reason behind the fight remains unknown. A few onlookers revealed that the two men were screaming at each other over something, and then the situation got out of hand.

The 33-year-old Arcona was later taken to a nearby hospital to treat his injuries. As per Fox Station, he was only there to support his girlfriend, who is a Commanders fan. He claimed the guy who hit him “started being disrespectful with his words and pushed him [Arcona] first. But before I could push them back, the guy in our row actually rushed the whole aisle and knocked us all on the ground.”

NFL games have a history of fans fighting amongst themselves, especially when facing their rivals. It’s all about pride and bragging rights. Keeping that in mind, Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera released a statement on Sunday.

“The tradition of Washington football is true,” Rivera said after the game. “This fan base is really, truly iconic because of its history. We’ve got to understand and treat each other the same way.”

The veteran coach emphasized that games are all about enjoying the atmosphere and tension and celebrating players who put their hearts and souls on the field for the fans. He is correct that football is worth celebrating, but sometimes the occasion gets the better of some people.

Well, the Washington fans had something to cheer about after they beat the Cardinals 20-16 in a hotly contested game. Quarterback Sam Howell was one of the stars of the day. He completed 19 of 31 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown and ran for 11 yards to score a touchdown. They will face the tricky task of the Denver Broncos on September 18.
