WATCH: Sean Payton publicly smokes marijuana with 16-year-old kids as he’s seen lighting a bong despite facing backlash for his comments on Broncos’ management
To Payton or not to Payton - that remains the question.
Denver Broncos head coach spotted smoking weed? (Image credit ESPN)
From stirring trouble with fellow coaches to smoking weed, Sean Payton can do everything or does he? The Denver Broncos head coach apparently took a few shots with a bunch of 16-year-olds. While there’s no confirmation that it really is the 59-year-old due to the footage being blurry and not very clear, the silhouette and facial features do strike a similar chord with Payton.
In the video, a man can be seen holding a bong in his left hand with teenage boys. One of the boys, who is wearing a t-shirt of the NBA team, the Golden State Warriors, seems to be encouraging the man in question. “Keep going, Keep going; you’re the man,” says the boy in the Warriors shirt to the alleged Payton as he blows into the large beaker-shaped pot while one of the boys secretly films it.
Naturally, the video went viral in a matter of moments. But who are these boys, and whether the man is really Sean Payton is still unclear. The video is presumably more than two months old.
If they shot it after Payton came to Denver, then it’s perfectly okay to smoke. The Colorado government approved the use of a limited amount of marijuana in 2012. But people cannot smoke in public spaces.
Sean Payton arrived in Denver, Colorado, in February after taking some time off from football. He was previously the coach of the New Orleans Saints and won Super Bowl 44 in the 2009-10 season against the Indianapolis Colts. Currently, he is locked in a verbal battle against the New York Jets and their offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, who was his predecessor at the Broncos.
Sean Payton refused to pay fine for violating Covid-19 protocols
During the 2020 season, the NFL declared some guidelines or protocols that every player, coach, and staff had to follow during the games. One rule was that everyone had to wear masks that covered their mouth and nose properly. Sean Payton was then in charge of the Saints.
In the Week 2 game against Jon Gruden’s Last Vegas Raiders, neither of them were wearing any protection. Subsequently, the NFL fined both coaches $100,000. However, a recently leaked report by ESPN revealed that Payton did not pay the fine.
Payton reportedly even mocked Gruden for paying his share, saying, “You’re the only dumbf*ck that paid the fine.” Considering he was one of the first in the league to contract the virus, his nonchalant attitude about the matter makes him look even worse.
If that really is the case, then it does not bode well for the NFL, as there were several others who were booked for the same reason. Then the Broncos’ head coach, Vic Fangio, the San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan, and the Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll were all supposed to pay.
