The Kansas City Chiefs played a sloppy first half on Christmas Day against the Las Vegas Raiders. It wasn’t the game Travis Kelce was hoping for when he stepped onto the field at Arrowhead.

Besides the offensive woes, the Kelce side had already given up two defensive touchdowns to rub salt in their wounds. Jack Jones trolled by picking off Patrick Mahomes‘ pass, and 300-pound defensive lineman Bilal Nichols walked home another TD.

Mahomes was yelling at the Chiefs offensive line, who had gifted golf carts just a few days ago as Christmas Present. It has been a recurring theme for the Chiefs QB, who is increasingly frustrated with the mediocre plays around him. First, the receivers let him down, and now the O-line is failing to keep away the Raiders blitz.

He wasn’t the only one. All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce had only caught three passes in the first half and was struggling to find space in the Raiders backfield. That showed up when head coach Andy Reid did not send the 34-year-old on for a punt. It resulted in Kelce smashing his helmet in anger on the sidelines.

Andy Reid had to calm Travis Kelce down

With just under three minutes left to go until the halftime break, the Chiefs were trailing the Raiders 17-7. It was fourth down, near the 50-yard mark. Punter Tommy Townsend was sent on to hoop the ball deep downfield inside Vegas territory.

However, Townsend had something special planned for the moment. When the long center gave him the ball, instead of kicking, he opted for a throw. Townsend not only found wide receiver Justin Watson but also managed to keep the Chiefs drive alive by snatching the first down.

While the entire Arrowhead erupted with the innovative play, Andy Reid was seen talking to Travis Kelce. The veteran Chiefs head coach even gave Pro Bowler a nudge on his shoulder to get his focus back on the game.

It did not work, though, as the Raiders kept things tight at the back, allowing just seven more points to win the game 20-17. Kelce hasn’t had the season he would have hoped for. Not only has he not scored any touchdowns for five games, but he has yet to record a 100-yard game since the Chargers victory early on in the season. He currently stands with 90 receptions for 968 yards and 5 touchdowns.
