The NFL Week 1 had many surprises. Nearly all of the big shots were handed over defeats by the underdogs. The trend started with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals. The latest to join the bandwagon was the Denver Broncos, who lost against the Las Vegas Raiders by a margin of 17-16. The game was intense, and the Raiders held their nerves and emerged as the winners.

The game witnessed a decent performance from the Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He threw his second touchdown pass to Jakobi Meyers and made an eight-yard run for a first down. His efforts were pivotal to clinch the win for the Raiders.

Right after the game, head coach Josh McDaniels addressed the team with a pep talk. He praised the team for the efforts they put on the field. He also appreciated the team for showing maturity on the field. “Now listen to me. I am really proud of the effort, and I am really proud of the maturity that we show. We handled them with class, we handled them with dignity and perseverance, so we won in the fourth quarter. We f**king won in the 4th quarter,” the coach said in the dressing room.

Historically, the Raiders have had supremacy over the Broncos. Records state that they have won 72 matches against the Broncos, while the latter managed to win 54. This is also their fourth straight-time win against the Broncos, and they have every right to celebrate the victory.

The Denver Broncos were desperate to win the first match this season. A win could have easily provided a staunch message that the Broncos are coming out of the trauma that they suffered last season. Last year, they struggled to get going despite the huge expectations following the arrival of Russell Wilson.

They had a record of 5-12 and almost matched their worst record of 4-12. The head coach was sacked, and Sean Payton took charge as the head coach. The Broncos nation hoped the leadership of Peyton could help them get back into contention.

Payton had a set of new challenges. One of them was Russel Wilson, who had a disastrous season last year. He was at his worst. Sean Payton was expected to take the best out of him by putting him in his best position. However, that did not work out in the first game. Whether the coach-QB duo can create magic in the coming games is to be seen.
