“God, I am gonna cry”: When an emotional Bailey Zappe couldn’t hold back his tears after he was drafted by the Patriots

Bailey Michael Zappe is a talented young quarterback who played for three seasons at Houston Baptist and earned a lot of praise for his performances. He then went on to shatter the FBS season records for passing yards and touchdowns as well in his final year at Western Kentucky.
Zappe was named C-USA’s most valuable player last year and with this, he also took home the Earl Campbell Tyler Jones award. Moreover, he was also named the offensive MVP at the 2021 Boca Raton Bowl.

Looking at Zappe’s credentials, it was rather evident that he will be roped in by a top franchise at the NFL draft which is exactly what happened. Zappe was roped in by the New England Patriots in the fourth round. To give the confirmation that he’ll be a Patriot, coach Bill Belichick gave a call to Zappe, and the wholesome moment was captured on camera.
In a video shared by NFL, Bailey can be seen talking on the phone to Belichick with a smile on his face. After thanking the coach for roping him in, Bailey calls his agent Nicole and says, “I have been crying the whole time. Don’t start crying, I’ll start crying.”
“I literally went to the restroom and I was just like walking out of the restroom grabbing Hannah, and I was like hey come plop back to the living room and my phone starts ringing I am like, I knew the Patriots are up but I was like, the Patriots ain’t gonna pick me right now,” Zappe said in the video.
Bailey gave tight hugs to his family members who were also seen shedding a few tears of joy. In the video, Bailey goes on to say that it was just a surreal moment. Something he has been dreaming about since he first started playing football at 5 years of age. It will be interesting to see how he performs for his team in the coming season.
