Dolly Parton has received a lot of backlash recently over her outfit choice for her performance at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show during the Dallas Cowboys‘ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Washington Commanders.
However, Whoopi Goldberg has come to her defense and shut down critics of her who were of the opinion that the revealing outfit was not age-appropriate.
On Monday’s episode of The View, Goldberg said:
Apparently, my turkey wasn't the only thing online that people were hating. Seventy-seven-year-old superstar Dolly Parton stole the show on Thanksgiving at the Cowboys/Commanders game dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, but some critics told her to act her age.
She could not believe that people were still looking at things with such a narrow mindset.
Whoopi Goldberg gave a classic short and sweet reply to these critics: “BITE ME.” The star further told everyone who took part in this public shaming to “be ashamed of” themselves. Her co-hosts concurred with her viewpoint. Sunny Hostin said:
If I looked like that in one of them Cowboys things, I might have everything out. I don't know if that's a belly ring or what, but I want what she has.
Dolly Parton rocked Thanksgiving with her amazing performance
The outpouring of support did not stop there; her sister, Stella Parton, tweeted on Sunday and said:
I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume. To those of you being so critical of a 77-year-old kicking up her heels, I say f**k yourself. Shame on you not her.
Dolly Parton‘s cheerleading outfit was part of her performance, where she sang some of her hits, such as a mashup of Queen’s “We are the Champions and We Will Rock You.” Parton recently released her first rock album, Rockstar, featuring collaborations with Paul McCartney, Sting, Steven Tyler, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, and many others.

Dolly Parton’s outfit consisted of belted white shorts, a white vest with blue stars, and a blue crop top. She wore a mesh catsuit to go along with it to cover her midriff and legs, and she covered her belly button with a crystal star.
