The Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has surprised the NFL world with the signing of Trey Lance. His inclusion followed the exit of Will Grier, who played the last match for the team yesterday.
In his final showdown, the 28-year-old performed brilliantly against Las Vegas Raiders. Fans went crazy after witnessing his brilliance on the field. He completed the night 29 for 35 and ran 305 passing yards with four total touchdowns, with an average of 8.7 yards of completion.
With this level of intense masterclass, the QB made his final night at the Cowboys memorable. Despite this performance, it is evident that Grier is not going to continue in the Cowboys. Lance will be their option for the upcoming season.
Lance was earlier associated with the San Francisco 49ers and the team listed him as the third quarterback for this season. However, the Cowboys were successful in trading him as a developmental quarterback and a backup option for this season.
“Well he gives us an opportunity to — at a level that we probably had never gone in the draft — to work and develop a young quarterback. And, you need to be doing that,” Jerry Jones said while interacting with the media.
The 80-year-old billionaire did not even consult with the head coach Mike McCarthy and the star quarterback Dak Prescott before signing Trey Lance from the 49ers.
Twitter went crazy with Will Grier’s masterclass

Fans were filled with joy, and they started coming out with overwhelming responses on Twitter (now rebranded as X). Some of them found it hard to believe that he is going to leave the club and make way for Lance.
“Bro think he Kenny Pickett,” a fan wrote on Twitter.
“He’ll be cut, but a team will 100% pick him up. Buffalo should heavily consider,” another fan commented on his future.
Fans even compared him with the new signing, Trey Lance. A fan said that he is better than Lance.
Not only fans, but analysts also seemed overwhelmed by his masterclass. David Helman, who covers the Cowboys for FoxSports, gave his flowers to Grier.
Lance, who was going through a tough phase in his career at the 49ers, will get an opportunity to revive his career. Injuries made his life difficult at the 49ers and the rise of Brock Purdy in the squad demoted him as the third choice in this season.
The Dallas Cowboys will start their NFL season against the New York Giants on 10 September 2023. They will intend to end their more than 28-year trophy drought.
