The Buccaneers legend Tom Brady recently announced his retirement from football during the first week of February. The 45-year-old QB shared a short video on social media in which he said that he’s retiring from football “for good.” And now, as the Bucs are in the market for a new quarterback, could they somehow rope in the Ravens QB Lamar Jackson to replace the 15-time Pro Bowler?

The Baltimore Ravens placed their franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson under a non-exclusive franchise tag on March 7. That means, once the tampering period ends, other teams would be able to negotiate terms with Jackson and offer him a contract. If a team reaches a middle ground with Jackson on a deal, the Ravens would have a chance to match that offer or get 2 first-round draft picks as compensation, if they lose him.

And the Buccaneers, who currently have only Kyle Trask under contract at the quarterback position, are shopping for a veteran signal-caller. According to reports, they are actively pursuing the former Browns QB, Baker Mayfield. But for whatever reasons, the Buccaneers’ plan at QB for 2203 won’t involve the 2-time Pro Bowl QB Lamar Jackson per multiple reports.

The reason for the decision is unknown but it might be due to Lamar Jackson demanding a fully guaranteed contract. Teams are concerned about giving a fully guaranteed contract to a QB who has missed 10 regular season games in the last two seasons.

Replacing the 15-time Pro Bowl QB Tom Brady might be a very hard thing to do. But the Ravens QB Lamar Jackson would’ve been the closest thing. He would’ve given the Buccaneers team a new life with his dual-threat ability.

Besides, Lamar Jackson and the 3-time league MVP Brady are the only two players in the league to win the MVP award unanimously, so they’re certainly a rare breed of talented signal-callers.

Moreover, Jackson, who has been impeccably good in his career so far, has never played alongside elite offensive weapons. And the Bucs having a settled offensive unit, which consists of elite players like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, would’ve surely helped Jackson to improve his game.

In addition, the Buccaneers also have enough capital to build a team around the talented 26-year-old quarterback, even if they give up two first-round draft picks to acquire him. But for whatever reason, the Bucs are allegedly not pursuing the dual-threat quarterback.
