The biggest story during day 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft was Will Levis sliding out of the first round. The Kentucky QB was expected to be drafted in the top 5 but it didn’t go that way on Thursday. Three quarterbacks were drafted inside the top 4 selections, Levis wasn’t one of them.
Nevertheless, Will Levis was eventually picked by the Tennessee Titans in the early second round. The Titans traded up 8 spots to draft the highly touted quarterback as they moved up from the 41st overall pick to the 33rd pick by trading with the Arizona Cardinals.
Levis had to sit in the green room awkwardly during the first round as the other signal-callers kept getting drafted before he finally heard his name. After the awkward first round, Levis and his family decided to not attend the second round and instead watched the draft on television. Despite him not getting drafted, Will Levis’ girlfriend broke the internet with her looks on Day 1.
When Will Levis finally got drafted by the Titans, he could not control his emotions as he let out all his frustrations by screaming in joy in front of his television. The 6’3″ quarterback’s nightmare finally ended on Friday but now he has to compete with two talented quarterbacks in Tennessee to move up the depth chart.
Why did Will Levis fall out of the first round?

A lot of people did not see Will Levis getting out of the first round. Unfortunately, it turned out the Indianapolis Colts, who were reportedly high on Levis, drafted the Florida QB Anthony Richardson with their 4th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
After that, teams did not draft a QB since they addressed their other needs. Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud were obviously more accomplished than Levis in their college football career but why did Anthony Richardson get drafted before Levis?
According to Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd, teams thought that 23-year-old QB Will Levis was too cocky compared to the other quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
“I’m told Richardson came across more humble and grateful in interviews and that lots of coaches thought Will Levis and Anthony Richardson both needed fixing and one would be easier to fix with a much higher upside,” Cowherd said during a recent episode of his show The Herd. “Will Levis comes across as a little cocky. He loves his arm, he loves the gun show, which I hated. The sleeveless shirts are not a good look.”
Besides, the New York Jets QB Zach Wilson had a similar hype as Levis due to their cannon arm. Wilson’s failure in New York might’ve played a part in teams not spending a first-rounder on Levis.
