The NFL Combine is underway at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, where prospects from all over the country have flown in to showcase their skills to perform in the league. Everyone around the league eagerly waits for the quarterbacks to perform at the Combine and shows their cannon to scouts, general managers, and coaches.
In this Combine, there are a lot of quarterbacks who have participated and are likely to be scooped up in the first round itself. One quarterback prospect that wowed everyone was Florida’s Anthony Richardson.
The 21-year-old signal-caller dominated every category for the quarterbacks as per NFL Research. He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash which was the fourth fastest by a QB since 2003, a 40.50″ vertical, a combine record for a QB, and a 10’09” broad jump which once again is NFL combine record for a QB. Richardson’s arm strength was also among one of the best which has him moving up in the draft and likely being the No.1 pick as well.

Are the Patriots interested in Anthony Richardson?

Anthony Richardson spent three years as a Gator, where he started all 12 games in 2022 and went 6-6 which doesn’t exactly fill the scouts with confidence in his ability to win games. He had a 53.8 completion percentage and threw for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Despite not having a strong collegiate resume, Richardson made up for it in the Combine with his insane skills.
Many teams are looking into Anthony Richardson, who has shown great promise during the Combine. The young quarterback confirmed that he met with the New England Patriots and was extremely happy with how the interview went. “I feel like that was another great interview for me as well,” Richardson said during his press conference on Friday.
The Patriots already have a first-round pick in Mac Jones but he came up short in his second season as a starter. He played 14 games and had a 6-8 record, which is troublesome for New England who once ruled the AFC. If the Patriots draft Richardson, he will be able to bring a whole lot of skills to the table. He is athletic, unlike Jones, and possesses the ability to establish himself as a dual-threat quarterback.
The Patriots, like any other team, look at all the prospects in the draft, which doesn’t necessarily mean that they will select him. Still, it does beg the question what if New England has the 14th overall pick and can go up in the draft to pick the Gator’s signal-caller? It’ll be interesting to see whether the Patriots select Richardson or back Mac Jones and move forward with him.
