The biggest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup, is going to start this November in Qatar and the eyes of the entire globe are fixed on it. Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson is currently present in Qatar as a FOX World Cup analyst.

Chad Johnson used to play as a WR for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and the Miami Dolphins and featured in the NFL for 11 seasons. He played college football for Oregon State University and was drafted by the Bengals in the 2001 NFL draft.

However, the American’s start to life in Qatar has gone awfully wrong, as he was almost arrested by the police for public displays of affection (PDA). Chad Johnson took to Twitter to share about his ordeal and how he almost landed up in jail.

“I just got reprimanded (warning) in Qatar for showing display of affection in the airport, had no idea it was frowned upon, people had me nervous like i was going to jail.”

The laws in Qatar are extremely strict when it comes to such matters and tourists are advised by the travel advisory to not indulge in such activities, as it’s not acceptable by the law prevailing in the land. However, it seems like Chad Johnson didn’t pay much attention to this and paid the price.

Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest. Living together whilst unmarried is prohibited in Qatar, and sex outside of marriage, regardless of whether this is same-sex couples or opposite-sex couples, is illegal,” states Qatar’s travel advice.
