Ja’Marr Chase had his best game of the 2023 season last week against the Seattle Seahawks. By recording 192 yards and three touchdowns, the 23-year-old thought he won the battle against Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
There was a lot of chatter between the two before their October 15 game. Chase wanted to prove a point that he was open 7/11. This meant that he couldn’t be covered by any defenders. However, Seahawks D.K. Metcalf claimed that Witherspoon will be the one to mark the Bengals star playmaker.
Metcalf’s words came true, even though they lost the game 17-13. His rookie teammate shut Chase down completely during the game. Witherspoon finished the day with three passes defended and four total tackles, forcing his adversary to change wings. But the drama did not end on the field. They went back to where it all began on the internet. After the game, the Seahawks’ social media account shared a picture of Witherspoon towering over Chase as if to signal who won the bout. Naturally, he did not agree with it because, at the end of the day, his team, the Cincinnati Bengals, won the game.
Ja’Marr Chase replied, “Lol, hold that L” in the comment section. Like clockwork, Witherspoon fired back too. He shared the same picture with a few emojis to imply what he thought of the results.

There will be plenty of Ja’Marr Chase vs. Devon Witherspoon in the future
The budding rivalry between the two players has quickly become a fan favorite, and most are looking forward to when they will get to see them go up against each other in the future. They both have a lot of time on their hands. Chase may be playing for a while, but Witherspoon is just starting out. Still, his performances have been so incredible that even Pete Carroll was all praise.
According to NFL.com, the veteran head coach of the Seahawks claimed, “I never thought he [Devon Witherspoon] would play like this. This is why we took him.” It is fair to say the 2023 first-round pick is doing justice to his team.
Nevertheless, fans of the two teams have to wait a bit to see them again. If the NFL scheduling procedure continues on the same trajectory and if the two players remain on their respective teams, they will not face each other for at least the next three years. However, if both the Bengals and Seahawks qualify for the playoffs this season, then maybe it will be round 2.
