The New York Jets had the worst start possible to their opening season game against the Buffalo Bills since their starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with an injury in their very first drive. However, they managed to stay in the game and win it on the back of an electric punt return from their rookie Xavier Gipson.

After the end of a gritty regulation period, the scores were tied at 16 a piece and the game went into overtime. Josh Allen and the Buffalo-based football team won the coin toss but failed to move the ball downfield.

The Bills had to settle for punting the ball in the overtime. During the punt, the Jets’ rookie receiver Xavier Gipson returned it for a walk-off touchdown which led the Jets to secure a victory against the defending AFC East Champions in week 1 of the 2023 regular season. Thanks to the electric punt return touchdown, the Jets were able to secure an important division victory. Zach Wilson, who took over at quarterback position after Rodgers’ injury completed 14 of his 21 pass attempts for 140 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Furthermore, the Jets’ running back Breece Hall, who missed the majority of the 2022 season with an ACL injury had 10 carries for 127 yards in his first game back on the field since last season.

On the flip side, the Bills QB Allen had one of the worst games of his career as he threw for 3 interceptions in the game. His turnovers proved costly for the Bills as the Jets secured a victory despite losing Aaron Rodgers in the first quarter.

The Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to miss the entire 2023 season according to Robert Saleh. During the post-game press conference, the Jets head coach said that Rodgers’ injury situation is not looking good.

Saleh further said that Rodgers’ X-rays came back negative which means there’s no injury to his bones but the fear is the 39-year-old QB might have suffered an Achilles injury which could keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the season. That would be a massive blow for the New York-based football team.

Nonetheless, the Jets are looking to keep their momentum going as they are preparing to face the Dallas Cowboys without Rodgers in week 2 of the 2023 regular season.
