The Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy is one of the highly touted prospects in the 2024 draft class. He recently lit up the NFL Combine, which boosted his draft stock massively. During the process, he also broke the record for the fastest 40-yard dash. As a result, he was compared to Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt.
The Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy ran the 40-yard dash in just 4.21 seconds. He broke the NFL Combine’s record for the fastest 40-yard dash. The record was previously held by the former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver John Ross, who ran the 40-yard in 4.22 seconds.
Worthy did not only break the Combine record. He also ran faster than Usain Bolt. The Olympic gold medalist completed the 40-yard dash in 4.22 seconds, the only time he ran an NFL-style dash. However, it should be noted, Bolt ran the dash without previous training for that style.
Furthermore, he also participated in the dash while wearing tennis shoes and casual clothes. It’s safe to assume Bolt would’ve run faster if he had worn proper attire. However, this time Worthy can claim bagging rights with his record.
I just broke the record. It still doesn't feel real. Man, just a blessing to be able to do this in front of all these fans, with all these peers I'm with.Xavier Worthy said after his historic moment
Apart from the 40-yard dash, Worth also impressed with his other workouts. The 5’11” also had a 41-inch vertical and a 10-11 broad. Before the Combine, Worthy was projected to be a mid-to-late second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, he might’ve played himself into the first round with his performance at the Combine.
Social media reacts to Xavier Worthy breaking Usain Bolt’s record
NFL fans on social media had some wild reactions to the Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy breaking Usain Bolt’s 40-yard dash record. Worthy’s draft stock is on the rise following the record.
Some people believe Worthy’s speed will help him become a great wide receiver in the league. But others still have some doubts about Worthy, especially since he’s a bit undersized. Check out some of the reactions attached below.
Nonetheless, many teams can add some speed to their offense. Especially, a team like the Chiefs could benefit a lot by adding a player like Worthy. The Chiefs currently hold the 32nd overall pick in the draft and could potentially look to rope in him.
