The Cincinnati Bengals faced the Green Bay Packers at Paycor Stadium on Friday and lost 36-19, but everyone is chatting about what transpired before the match. Quarterback Joe Burrow was seen throwing some balls, and that got the fans excited about some good news. However, coach Zac Taylor has downplayed Burrow’s workout.
Taylor revealed to the media after the game that Burrow went out “just to get in some throws.” It was not the announcement everyone was hoping for, but he did shed some light on his signal caller’s recovery. “Things are good, and he’s progressing as he should.“
Joe Burrow has been out since July 27, when he picked up a supposed calf injury during training. The medical staff’s initial examination determined the Pro Bowler to be out for a few weeks. However, his early reappearance might be a sign that he can return earlier than predicted.
Offensive coordinator Brian Callahan also chimed in. “He’s been rehabbing quite a bit,” Callahan said. “Guys like seeing him, and having him out at practice is always beneficial.”
Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase wants Burrow to take his time and recover rather than rush back. “I told him that, with all honesty, I don’t want him there,” Chase said. “We’re good as long as you’re there after Week 5.”
Emmanuel Acho agrees with Chase, as he too warns the Bengals QB that he has seen calf injuries get worse. “I have seen far too often calves turn into Achilles, and I am tired of seeing it.” Acho compared Joe Burrow’s situation with NBA player Kevin Durant‘s.
Are the Cincinnati Bengals still the favorites to win the AFC North without Burrow on the team?
The Bengals have dominated the AFC North for the last couple of years and were favorites to repeat the feat. But that was with Joe Burrow on the team. With him being absent for the first few weeks, they may end up losing some ground to their rivals. Several analysts have repeatedly backed Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson to do well in 2023.
However, the Bengals did sign free agent Trevor Siemian for such an occasion. The veteran quarterback played against the Packers on Friday. He completed 15 out of his 28 passes and threw for 121 yards with one interception.
Zac Taylor was impressed with his backup QB but wants him to improve quickly as the lack of points cost the Bengals the match. “Ultimately, that’s what we’re judged on. Not enough of that tonight,” he said, according to ESPN.
The Cincinnati Bengals begin their 2023 season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 17.
