It hadn’t been long since Cincinnati Bengals’ star wide receiver Tee Higgins requested a trade when the franchise tagged him. But looking at Zach Taylor talking about him, it doesn’t seem they are ready to move the receiver anywhere else.

Earlier this week, the Bengals head coach expressed his and the entire team’s excitement to have Higgins for another season, at the 2024 NFL Annual Meeting. As the team aiming for the Super Bowl in 2024, Taylor believes their best chance to win is with Higgins on the roster, as reported by Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Taylor said:

We’re excited for Tee to have a great year for us. We think he’s our best chance to help us win a Super Bowl. I’ve enjoyed working with Tee the last four years, I expect this year to be no different.

In recent times, Higgins has established himself to be among the top receivers in the league. In the 42 games he played in the last three years, he posted 190 catches for 2,776 yards and 18 scores. And when receiver No. 1, Ja’Marr Chase would hit the market, Higgins is highly likely to take the lead with the Bengals.

Tee Higgins eyes record deal, but Bengals’ budget may not comply

The reason why the NFL’s best No. 2 receiver requested a trade from the Bengals this offseason is because he was looking for a big contract extension that would bring him among the highest-paid wideouts in the league. However, the Bengals have shown reluctance to come up a with satisfying number for Higgins, instead they franchise tagged him

Given, that the Bengals already have a Joe Burrow on top of the quarterback market and Chase second in line to get a contract that is likely to be the largest among the wideouts in the league. There’s a highly unlikely chance that Cincinnati would be able to afford a big extension for Higgins.

On the contrary, the Bengals are aiming for their first Super Bowl trophy in franchise history. And not having their receiver No. 2 would heavily harm their chances, just like the head coach mentioned.
