After months and months of preparations, NFL teams are ready to go against each other in their quest to win the Super Bowl ring at the end of the 2023 season. In the pre-season opener, Zach Wilson and the New York Jets took on the Cleveland Browns on Thursday in the NFL’s annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
Aaron Rodgers made his official debut as a Jet but he was on the sidelines cheering Wilson and Co. against the Browns. During the game, Wilson impressed everyone, including Rodgers with a massive 57-yard completion to wide receiver Malik Taylor in the first quarter of the game. Wilson threw a perfect dime to Taylor from the Jets‘ own endzone that left people in awe of his arm strength.
Rodgers, who was on the sidelines during the game, was pumped up after the throw and celebrated with a fist pump. That was just one of 3 completions by Wilson in the game. He was taken out of the game after completing 3 passes out of 5 attempts for 65 yards. The Jets were leading 16-7 during halftime, but the Browns managed to make a comeback.
The Cleveland-based football team managed to keep the Jets scoreless during the entire second half, which resulted in the Browns winning the pre-season game 21-16 in a convincing manner. Wilson and the Jets will take on the Carolina Panthers on August 12 in their next pre-season game. Rodgers is expected to be on the sidelines for that matchup too.

Aaron Rodgers has been a great mentor for Zach Wilson so far
Ever since the veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers became the franchise QB of the NY Jets back in April, the 39-year-old QB has been a great mentor for the former 1st-round pick Zach Wilson. Wilson, who was selected as the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Jets, showed promising flashes in his first 2 years in the league but failed to prove that he could lead the Jets to the Super Bowl.
As a result, the Jets made a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers to acquire Rodgers and make him the starting QB of the Jets. Now, Rodgers is expected to play at least two years in New York.
This means Wilson would be a backup for the 10-time Pro Bowler for the remainder of his rookie deal. But if Wilson becomes a better player, the Jets could pick up his fifth-year option to give him another shot at securing the starting QB job in the NFL. Wilson would be striving to achieve that in the future under the guidance of the former Super Bowl MVP.
