Zach Wilson was down on one knee moping after the New York Jets narrowly lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on SNF by the score of 23-20. Some of his teammates went over to the young quarterback and said a few words of encouragement.
As the giant screen at the MetLife Stadium panned to the huddle near the Jets dugout, Wilson looked to be down, and for a good reason. The 24-year-old was under immense pressure to perform after a shaky couple of games, resulting in defeats. Even though his team was trailing by 17 points in the first quarter, they mounted a resurgence.
Wilson finished the game with his best stats of the season so far. He completed 28 of 39 passes for 245 yards and threw two touchdowns. Not only that, he also clocked two rushes for 14 yards, and one of them was a red zone run. A massive 180 from his last outing against the Patriots, against whom he only managed 157 yards in the entire game with only 50% passing accuracy.
Zach Wilson gave everything yesterday. But an untimely snap fumble when the scores were 20-20 shattered his momentum. Thus tipping the balance in favor of the visitors as they scored from a field goal on their next drive to win the game.
Shortly after, wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb put their hands on the third-year quarterback’s shoulder to remind him he played well. He could be heard saying, “I lost the game. It’s my fault, bro,” to punter Thomas Morstead.
During the post-match press conference, Lazard revealed what he told Wilson. “We all made mistakes today; you’re not the only one,” he said. “He played amazing today. Very proud of Zach.”
However, at the end of the day, only results matter. And now the New York Jets have three straight losses after four games in 2023. But this performance should provide some positives for head coach Robert Saleh.

Jets fans show support for Zach Wilson despite losing against the Chiefs
Witnessing a new side of Zach Wilson against the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday, fans of the gang green seemed to have found new hope. On social media, they applauded the BYU graduate for his tenacity and professionalism.
Since last year, Wilson has only been on the receiving end of media scrutiny. Even though it was a loss, he won the hearts of the millions of Big Apple faithful.
There will be more opportunities for Zach Wilson to turn the season around for the New York Jets. Up next, they face fellow strugglers, the Denver Broncos, who, for a change, won their game against the Chicago Bears last night.
