After a disappointing couple of seasons, the New York Jets‘ 2021 second-overall pick Zach Wilson lost his starting QB job to the veteran signal-caller Aaron Rodgers. But Wilson has been embracing the second-fiddle role in New York and has been working well with the veteran leader. In fact, during the last 2 pre-season games Wilson started, he has impressed a lot of people with his skills.
During the Jets’ second pre-season game against the Carolina Panthers, Zach Wilson had a solid outing. But his one particular throw during the game has the shade of the 10-time Pro Bowl QB Aaron Rodgers. Wilson received the snap from under center and threw a 2-yard lob to tight end Kenny Yeboah, who completed a catch for a touchdown.
Wilson hasn’t thrown a lot of lobs like that in both his college and NFL career. And now, after an off-season with Rodgers, Wilson throwing a lob like that has led the fans to believe Rodgers has taught some new things to the former BYU signal-caller. Besides, this is just not about one throw. Wilson has seemingly learned a lot since starting training with the 10-time Pro Bowler.
One of the main concerns about Wilson’s game has been the fact that he cannot make the check downs or layups. Wilson is known for forcing big plays and not taking what the defense gave him. But in the preseason game against the Panthers, 12 of Wilson’s 14 completions went to either running backs or tight ends as he did not force anything downfield.
As a result, Wilson completed 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 123 yards and 1 touchdown. The Jets ended up blowing out the Carolina-based football team and won the game 27-0. They are scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants in their next 2 preseason games.

Social media impressed with Zach Wilson’s performance
Zach Wilson has impressed a lot of fans with the improvement in his game. Wilson, who is expected to be the backup of Aaron Rodgers for the next couple of years, showed a lot of patients and read the defense perfectly in the preseason game against the Carolina-based football team. Fans believe Rodgers’ coaching has improved Wilson’s game. Check out some of the reactions below on the same thought.
Nonetheless, Wilson still only has two years remaining in his rookie deal and in both of those years he is expected to be the second stringer in the Jets’ depth chart. The Jets can pickup his fifth-year option and give a second chance to him to prove his talents in the NFL.
