Football is back after six long months! The NFL Preseason kicked off with two of the most exciting teams to watch out for this season going at it against one another. The new look New York Jets faced off against the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame game. The Browns won the game 21-16 which led to Aaron Rodgers’ time in the big apple starting off with a loss.

While Aaron Rodgers did not take a snap in the first game of the preseason, he did contribute significantly when it came to helping the QB call plays. It was Zach Wilson’s show as the former starter for the New York Jets is on a path to redemption after his disastrous season last year. The young quarterback who was strongly against the Jets bringing on a veteran QB onboard appears to be glad that the team decided to get AR12 aboard.

Zach Wilson ended the game with 3 completions out of 5 attempts, he threw for 65 years including a 57-yard deep ball. The quarterback in the postgame presser gave credit for the deep throw to none other than his veteran QB Aaron Rodgers. Turns out he was the one who gave Zach the idea to execute that play. “Great call by Aaron Rodgers, I have to give him a shoutout there.” An elated Zach Wilson told reporters.

The young quarterback went on to add, (I was) backed up, taking a shot down the field, kind of pick your matchup, those guys were playing single safety man and…I think that’s great for preseason ball see what guys can win and separate.” Zach was asked if Aaron Rodgers called the entire play sequence for the QBs through the means of the headset. This is what he had to say.

“I think it was just that play, he wasn’t on the headset, Hackett’s calling the plays but I think it was the suggestion of the play so I had to give him love,” Zach concluded. So while Nathaniel Hackett was the play caller, Aaron Rodgers was also contributing to the offense by offering his suggestions and inputs. This may not be a good look for Nathaniel Hackett, especially considering the Sean Payton comments fiasco.

But on the opposite end of the spectrum, it is great to see Zach Wilson and Aaron Rodgers getting along rather well. The young QB was the same man who had stated that he would make training camp “hell” for any veteran who came on board the team and took his starter’s role away from him. So far, judging from Wilson’s face after the game, he appears to be content with his role on the team for now and genuinely respects Aaron Rodgers.
