“Those guys are psychos!” Zach Wilson HAILS Jets’ defensive line after their ‘brutal’ attack on Bryce Young in 27-0 beat down

Wilson understands that the defenders need to be intimidating so that they can win the psychological and physical battle against their opponents during a game.

The New York Jets‘ depth in the defensive line was on display as they dominated the Carolina Panthers every step of the way on Saturday, so much so that it scared their own quarterback, Zach Wilson. When he was making his name, finding the receivers like bees to honey, the defense growled like crouching tigers. Despite playing without several first-team players such as Al Woods, Quinnen Williams, and C.J. Mosley, they played without fear. Why wouldn’t they? This was the opportunity for the backups to show they could step up if needed.

Quinton Jefferson, Will McDonald, and Bruce Hector all recorded sacks, along with a split for Jermaine Johnson. When asked about how it felt after blowing away the Panthers 27-0, Johnson said, “We take that as an honor and look forward to doing that every game.”

That should be music to the ears of Jets backup quarterback Zach Wilson, who ended up a little spooked by yesterday’s display. “Those guys are psychos,” he said. “The way they train, they’re psychos.” He is not far off with his assessment. During the match, defensive tackle Solomon Thomas almost split Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young in half with one of his sacks.“They are training to be violent, and you can definitely see it on the field,” Wilson added. “When you have guys up front that can put pressure on the quarterback, it’s going to be a long day.”

Zach Wilson received mixed reactions from the loss to the Cleveland Browns in the Jets’ first preseason game. On one play, he threw a 57-yard pass to receiver Malik Taylor; on the other, he slipped while making a dash for the byline.

However, the 24-year-old regretted himself after a good show yesterday. Wilson completed 14 of 20 passes for 123 yards and recorded one touchdown while completing 70% of his throws. His highlight of the game was his accurate pass to Kenny Yeboah for a two-yard touchdown. “I felt like I was comfortable,” Zach Wilson told the media after the game against the Panthers. “Some good and some things I can’t wait to try and fix.

The former first-round pick did not have the best of starts in the Big Apple. In his first two seasons as a New York Jets player, Zach Wilson had 18 interceptions and completed 55.2% of his attempted passes. Since the announcement of franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Wilson has been demoted as the backup. But head coach Robert Saleh is busy with his young signal caller; running him in the OTAs and now the preseason games. He may get another chance to prove himself against his city rivals, the New York Giants, on August 27.
