With most of the starters resting, Zach Wilson started his third consecutive preseason game for the New York Jets. Although he showed that throwing is his forte, Wilson did not forget to remind everyone that he can rush too.
After demolishing the Carolina Panthers 27-0 in his last game, all eyes were on Wilson to continue his rich vein of form. He did not disappoint against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night football.
The former No. 2 pick completed 9 out of his 13 passing attempts for 70 yards and registered a respectable quarterback rating of 82.2. Moreover, he led the Jets in rushing with 42 yards on the night.
Wilson completed several nice passes in the match. His clever throw to Jason Brownlee was the pick of the bunch. The 24-year-old looked on song as he found Allen Lazard open in left field in the first quarter (3rd & 5). But they had to settle for a field goal to give the Jets three points.
However, Wilson will best remember the game because of his 35-yard run. The scores were tied at 3 all as Wilson fainted a couple of Tampa players and dashed through, sliding into the 25-yard mark. They added three more points as Greg Zuerlein scored.

Fans have renewed hope in Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson did not have the best of times for the New York Jets in his first couple of seasons as a starter. However, his recent form has renewed optimism among the Big Apple faithful.
The New York Jets may have lost the match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Zach Wilson wants to thank his offensive line for covering him.
“It was great; I didn’t get touched. All those guys did an awesome job, but I’m excited for him (Mekhi Becton) to be healthy and back out there, and he’s in great shape. Every time we step on the field, it’s a good opportunity,” Wilson told reporters after the game.
Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton finally got a start after spending a lengthy time on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. He looked shaky at times, but was able to hit his stride once the game progressed.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers was seen in his usual cheerful mood, wearing headphones, and enjoying his understudy play. The veteran quarterback was satisfied with Wilson’s performance, stating that he will stick around for a few years and hand over once he hangs up his boots.
Rodgers has not played any preseason games so far. According to head coach Robert Saleh, fans may see the 39-year-old for the first time in Jets colors against cross-town rivals the New York Giant, but for a short while.
