A remarkable start seems to have hit road bumps as starting quarterback Zach Wilson has been listed on the injury report. The New York Jets’ luck with their quarterbacks has gone down the hill, as first it was Aaron Rodgers with his Achilles injury, and now it’s Wilson with a serious knee injury.
After being named as the starting QB, Wilson impressed every with his career-best performance against the Houston Texans. However, ahead of the crucial game against the Miami Dolphins on the coming Sunday, the veteran quarterback sustained a severe knee injury in the practice week.
In the practice session held on Wednesday for the upcoming showdown against the Dolphins, Wilson gave his full participation. However, after his knee injury, he was mentioned on the Jets’ injury reserve list, according to NBC Sports. On Wednesday, the quarterback was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and has not missed any game this season due to injury.
Wilson returned to the field after being benched for two games earlier this season. But considering his phenomenal outing against the Texans, head coach Robert Saleh praised him calling his performance against the Texans, “best game as a professional.”
In addition to Wilson and Rodgers on the injury list, the Jets now also have receiver Jason Brownlee and defensive end John Franklin-Myers due to ankle injury, defensive tackle Solomon Thomas due to knee injury, and tackle Carter Warren due to hip injury, out of the practice sessions.
Will Zach Wilson part ways with the Jets after this season?
With everything happening, it seems like quarterback Wilson’s journey with the Jets might come to an end very soon. He held onto a ray of hope with Rodgers’ trade with the team. However, after being benched for backup quarterback Tim Boyle, Wilson had it all, as reported by Deseret.
Before returning as a starting QB, there were rumors that Wilson was hesitant to return to the Jets. All these could lead to a potential trade deal for Wilson in the 2024 off-season.
Due to his stats this season, Wilson might not compete for starting roles. However, if he went out for the backup, he has a great shot of landing with teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs.
