Zach Wilson’s mom reveals how the QB ignored concussion symptoms and kept playing until he took another blow to the head amid Jets’ offensive struggles
It was Wilson's second game back after being benched.

Zach Wilson is a fighter. Wilson proved how mentally tough he can be after greeting his teeth through the controversy following being benched. He kept the outside noise away and blew the Houston Texans out of the park, dropping 30 points on his return.
However, every individual has their limits. It was tested to the maximum when the New York Jets traveled to South Beach and faced the Miami Dolphins (10-4). The Dolphins are famous for their quick blitz, and they did not waste any time targeting Wilson.
He had already suffered a few sacks in the first half before Miami linebacker Bradley Chubb smashed into the 24-year-old, forcing him to fumble the ball. Wilson was slow to get back up from the ground but did continue to play. However, the situation got scary later in the night after another hit to the head.
The game finished with the Jets failing to score any points. Before going off, Wilson threw for 110 yards and two interceptions. Later, his mom, Lisa, revealed that her son was showing signs of concussions after the first Chubb tackle. He played through without letting anyone know. According to her, the BYU graduate had blurred vision and lost his depth of perception. He wanted to continue, but the Jets brought on veteran Trevor Siemian.
Yesterday was a little bit rough, Zach took some really, really big hits and he fought through it and really tried to just stay out on the field--He didn't want to go out, he didn't want to stop playing — so he didn't tell the sideline, the coaches, the trainers how he was really feeling and tried to just fight through it and be out there for his guys.'Lisa Wilson said in a TikTok video
Is Zach Wilson another victim of the shortcomings of the Jets’ offensive line?
If there’s one massive problem that the Jets have besides their inability to score touchdowns, it’s the horrific offensive line. They protect the quarterback from on-rushing edge rushers. But when they fail to accomplish their job properly, cases like Wilson tend to happen.
On top of that, it’s not an isolated incident. On the opening day of 2023, their carelessness cost Aaron Rodgers his season. One can point out that it’s the first day of the new season, and it takes a while for players to get back to match sharpness. That’s true, but how long does it take?
15 weeks have passed, and still, they are giving sacks like it’s the Minnesota State Fair. As per Pro Football Network, the Jets O-line of LT Mekhi Becton, LG Laken Tomlinson, and C Joe Tippmann, RG Jake Hanson, and RT Billy Turner ranked 30 out of 32 in the league. They are worse than Carolina, Washington, and Chicago, which speaks for itself.
In Miami, the Dolphins defenders land six sacks against their quarterbacks. One of them ended up in concussion protocol, and the other could have sustained serious injuries. It doesn’t matter who the QB is next season; considering their season is over (they were eliminated from the playoffs), the Jets need to sort out their O-line, or else Zach Wilson won’t be the last casualty.
