The Cleveland Browns shocked the entire NFL when they acquired former Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson in a deal that guaranteed him $230 million. After an abysmal performance by Baker Mayfield in the 2021 season, the Browns decided they had enough and moved on from the former No.1 draft pick.

Now, Mayfield is looking for a team that will have him. But, Baker Mayfield hasn’t shown any real promise of what he was touted to be in the 2018 draft. He was considered to be a franchise quarterback but that doesn’t seem to be the case now and teams are skeptical of his play-making ability given his recent performances.

“What league am I watching where you think there are 32 QBs better than Baker Mayfield?” – Nick Wright believes Baker Mayfield is still worthy

Cleveland Browns decided to move on from Baker Mayfield because they wanted “an adult” at the most crucial position of football. Then they went ahead and signed Deshaun Watson who many believe is a step down from Mayfield. The entirety of the NFL is irked by Cleveland offering Watson the most lucrative deal in the league even when the QB is facing 22 civil lawsuits for his sexual misconduct.

Nick Wright on First Thing First is confident that Baker Mayfield will be a Week 1 starter in the NFL. “Unless I hibernated for the last four months, this is the biggest overreaction we have ever done on this show,” Wright said expressing his surprise over teams not fighting over Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield led Cleveland to their first win in 19 games, ending a 635-day streak, and went on to set the rookie quarterback record for passing touchdowns. Mayfield struggled during his second year but rebounded in 2020 when he led the Browns to their first playoff appearance since 2002 and victory since 1994.

So, there is a great QB hidden somewhere underneath all the bad performances. All Baker needs is a chance to show his potential with a great organization. Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints can’t afford Mayfield due to hitting cap space. And the Texans didn’t want Mayfield because “The Texans are the worst run franchise in all of professional sports” per Nick Wright.

“I will bet any amount of money that barring injury, Baker Mayfield is going to be a Week 1 starter in this league. What league am I watching where you think there are 32 QBs better than Baker Mayfield?” Wright concluded. Teams like NY Giants, Carolina Panthers make the perfect landing spot for Mayfield. It’ll be a treat to watch Mayfield in new colors and shut down all the hate surrounding him right now.
