“NOT Surprised !” – Former cheerleaders speak out on the recent NFL cheerleading scandal and reveal ‘horrifying facts’ about the league
Kristan Ware and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders
This week, ESPN blew the whistle on a dirty secret that the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL were keeping for almost six years. They revealed that in May 2016, the Cowboys paid four of the team’s iconic cheerleaders $2.4 million to settle a lawsuit.
The cheerleaders alleged that the Cowboys’ senior executive Rich Dalrymple slipped into their locker room while they were changing and recorded them on his phone. While Dalrymple denied all the charges against him, the Cowboys did a thorough investigation and decided to settle with the cheerleaders.
This isn’t the first time cheerleaders have been mistreated in the NFL
Canadian-American journalist and host of the show Banfield, Ashleigh Banfield, had a talk with former NFL cheerleaders and discussed how these incidents are just the first of many that the NFL has covered up over the years. The guests on the show who publicly spoke against the injustices in the NFL were, Meagan Pravden, former cheerleader of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Orlando Magic, and back in 2014 tried to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader but was told she danced too “heavily” and her thighs were “too stocky”.
Kristan Ware cheered for the Miami Dolphins but was mocked, abused, and ostracized for talking about her Christain faith and that she was a virgin. Mhkeeba Pate cheered for the Seattle Seahawks and now hosts the “Pro Cheerleading Podcast: The Truth behind the Pomps”. These women revealed all the wrongdoing that happens in the NFL with the cheerleaders and how they are treated like livestock by the teams.
“You know my heart goes out to these women and unfortunately, I’m not surprised by this at all. The NFL continues to cover up their wrongdoings with dirty hush money and the amount of NDAs that they are giving out is completely out of control and I believe it’s a tactic to continue to silence women in the NFL,” Ware said revealing personal details of her time with the Dolphins.
“Well, I gave my life publicly to Christ and I got baptized in father, son holy spirit and posted it on my Twitter and I was super excited. But then I found myself in an interview room with the director and the coaches, bringing up my faith and also bringing up my personal conviction to save myself for marriage. To which they said I was not allowed to mention God on the team anymore and that I needed to develop into a real woman.”
The NFL has been ripe with controversies lately. Earlier, Brian Flores former head coach of the Miami Dolphins filed a lawsuit against the New York Giants and the NFL accusing them of racial discrimination for the head coach position. Now, that this cheerleading scandal has come to light, the NFL has to take some serious look inwards and figure out the root cause of these problems.
