Odell Beckham Jr. could join the Chiefs, may play with Patrick Mahomes in 2022: Report

Odell Beckham Jr. revived his career in 2021 with a move to Los Angeles. After he and his dad basically forced their way out of Cleveland, Beckham found himself signing a deal with the Rams that resulted in a Super Bowl ring.

OBJ played every possible game with the Rams and finished the regular season with 27 receptions for 305 yards and 5 touchdowns in LA. While those numbers are somewhat humble for some like Odell Beckham Jr., it’s expected when playing in an offense with Cooper Kupp having the single best season by a wide receiver since Calvin Johnson.

While the numbers are deflated because of Cooper Kupp, it also benefits Beckham as he gets less attention from opposing defenses. That was very evident in the playoffs where he brought in 21 receptions for 288 yard and 2 touchdowns(1 in the Super Bowl).

Odell Beckham Jr. playing a #2 receiver clearly worked in LA and for that reason, Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen of ESPN believe that he would fit in very well at Kansas City with Tyreek Hill.

Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen both gave their opinion on the best fit for possible free agents recently. Fowler said, “He (Odell Beckham Jr.) has to sign with a contender with high-level quarterback play, and Kansas City needs juice opposite Tyreek Hill, Plus, tight end Travis Kelce turns 33 in October.”

Bowen added “We like Beckham in the Chiefs’ pass-game structure as a viable No.3 target for Patrick Mahomes. A nuanced and savvy route runner, Beckham can win isolation matchups or be schemed as a catch and run option on the leveled concepts in the Kansas City playbook.”

Something any team, including the Los Angeles Rams, have to consider is how healthy Odell Beckham Jr. can be. With the injury in the Super Bowl, OBJ has now torn his ACL in two straight years. Prior to that, he suffered a broken ankle in 2017.

While Beckham certainly seems to have rehabbed his two prior major injuries well, tearing the same ACL two years in a row is not a good sign. Whether or not OBJ will be the same player or become a shell of his former self really is a toss-up at this point.

The expectation is that he’ll be ready for the 2022 season but time will tell in terms of that. Assuming he is, the likelihood of where Beckham plays is more dependent on where he wants to go. In both LA and KC, he is not the number 1 option. He’ll get less attention with the Chiefs which could help but he’ll probably end up with lower targets given Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce dominate that offense.

As of now, it seems that Odell Beckham Jr. is happy with the Rams having just won his first Super Bowl. We’ll have to wait and see if they decide to resign him based on his health in the coming weeks.
