“Odell Beckham Jr. is not a #1 receiver” Skip Bayless boldly claims that OBJ is better off as an afterthought

“Odell Beckham Jr. is not a #1 receiver” Skip Bayless boldly claims that OBJ is better off as an afterthought

Odell Beckham Jr. set the NFL on fire right from his first start. Since then his star has risen exponentially with each passing season right up until his trade to the Cleveland Browns.

After a poor spell with the Browns where he was the primary focus for opposing defenses, Beckham found himself in the Hollywood spotlight of Los Angeles as he was brought into their all-in campaign this season.

Beckham has enjoyed a good run in Los Angeles including a 9 catch 113-yard performance in the NFC Championship game. A lot of that has to do with the unbelievable season Cooper Kupp is having on the other side of the field.

Skip Bayless also believes that Kupp is benefiting Beckham so much so that when OBJ hits free agency after the Super Bowl, he’ll stay in LA where he’ll get less attention from defenses.

Skip Bayless believes that Odell Beckham Jr. is happier as a #2 receiver

Appearing on Fox Sports’ ‘Undisputed’, Skip Bayless was quoted saying “He’s(Odell Beckham Jr.) shining in the shadow of Cooper Kupp because he gets single coverage everywhere he goes. All of a sudden, he’s open and Matthew Stafford is starting to realize that they have three guys on #10 and one guy on #3, I think I’m gonna go throw it to #3.”

Bayless also added “Odell does not believe anymore that he’s a number one anymore. And, he is in football heaven right now. In Hollywood where he has a home in Beverly Hills, getting to play number two to Cooper Kupp and loving it.” He’s gonna be a Los Angeles Ram next year.”

As of now, we’ve seen eleven games of OBJ on the Rams and with the Super Bowl, it’ll be twelve. While that isn’t a full season it’s very nearly enough. And it should be enough for Beckham to decide if he wants to stay in LA after this season.

In the eleven games we’ve had, Beckham certainly has had less of the spotlight but with that, he’s had less of the ball. It took till the NFC Championship game for him to come close to 10 receptions this season.

If OBJ can put aside his desire to be the star receiver and prioritize winning, then LA is exactly where he belongs. However, if he wants to be the featured receiver that he once was, either the Rams will have to throw to him more or he’ll have to find a new team for 2022.
